1 - What is Vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to eliminate looseness and expansion in the vaginal area. Childbirth, aging, hormonal changes, excessive weight gain and loss, and genetic factors can cause vaginal tissue to lose its flexibility and expand over time. This can lead to both aesthetic and functional problems, causing problems such as sexual dissatisfaction, urinary incontinence, and vaginal dryness. Vaginoplasty tightens the vaginal walls, providing a healthier structure both aesthetically and functionally. The aim is to increase sexual pleasure by recovering the muscles and tissues in the vaginal area. Vaginoplasty can also be applied to remove birth stitch marks or to correct the asymmetrical appearance of the inner and outer lips. Today, thanks to technological developments, non-surgical methods such as laser-assisted vaginoplasty are also offered as an alternative to surgery.

2 - How is Vaginoplasty Performed?

Vaginoplasty can be applied with different techniques depending on the patient's needs and vaginal structure. The procedure is usually performed under local or general anesthesia and takes an average of 1-2 hours. Excess tissue is removed along the inner wall of the vagina, muscle tissue is tightened, and the vaginal canal is narrowed. In patients with a wide vagina, excess mucosal tissue is also removed, resulting in a tighter and younger structure. The stitches are made using self-dissolving stitches, so the patient does not need to have stitches removed. During the operation, irregularities in the perineal area and birthmarks can also be eliminated, thus giving the vagina a healthier form both aesthetically and functionally. As a non-surgical alternative, laser-assisted vaginal tightening can also be applied; in this method, collagen production is increased by heating the vaginal tissues, thus ensuring the natural tightening of the vagina. The vaginoplasty procedure should be planned specifically for the patient according to their needs and should be performed by an experienced specialist.

3 - Who is Vaginoplasty Suitable For?

Vaginoplasty is an ideal solution for individuals who have vaginal widening problems and want to improve their quality of sexual life. Patients who have loosened vaginal muscles after giving birth, who experience frequent vaginal infections, or who have functional problems such as urinary incontinence may prefer this procedure. It is also suitable for individuals who want to make their vaginal area tighter and younger due to aesthetic concerns. Having a large vaginal opening can negatively affect a person's self-confidence and sexual satisfaction, so vaginoplasty offers both physical and psychological benefits. The most suitable candidates for this operation are those who are in good general health and do not have a serious chronic disease. Considering that smoking can negatively affect the healing process, it is recommended to quit smoking before surgery. Vaginoplasty helps improve the quality of life by providing long-term solutions for individuals who have given birth naturally or who have lost vaginal tightness due to advancing age.

4 - What is the Recovery Process After Vaginoplasty?

The recovery process after vaginoplasty surgery may vary depending on the patient's general health and the extent of the procedure. Mild pain, swelling and tenderness may be experienced for the first few days after the procedure, but this can be controlled with painkillers prescribed by the doctor. Patients can usually return to their daily activities within 3-5 days, but heavy physical activities and exercises should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks. It may take approximately 6-8 weeks for the stitches to completely disappear and for the vaginal tissues to heal completely. Avoiding sexual intercourse for the first 4-6 weeks after the operation supports the healthy completion of the healing process. Paying attention to the hygiene of the area and following the care instructions recommended by the doctor minimizes the risk of infection. The tightening effect obtained after vaginoplasty is long-term, and supportive methods such as Kegel exercises are recommended to strengthen the vaginal muscles. After the procedure, the vaginal area gains a younger, tighter and more aesthetic appearance, significantly increasing the person's quality of life.
