1 - What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, medically known as rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure performed to improve the shape, size and function of the nose. This operation allows the nose to be more compatible with the face and can also correct breathing problems. Aesthetic and functional problems such as a curved nose structure, drooping nose tip, nasal deviation or asymmetrical nose structure can be eliminated with rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty can be performed with open or closed techniques; while the open technique is preferred for more complex corrections, the closed technique is a method that leaves fewer scars. The surgery aims to achieve a natural and aesthetic appearance by personalizing it in accordance with the person's facial features. Today, thanks to advanced surgical techniques, the recovery process of patients after rhinoplasty has accelerated and become more comfortable. Rhinoplasty can be performed not only for beauty but also to improve respiratory functions.

2 - How is Rhinoplasty Performed?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical operation planned to be suitable for the person's facial proportions and nose structure. First, the patient's expectations and facial analysis are performed to determine the scope of the surgery. The operation is performed under general anesthesia and takes an average of 2-4 hours. In the open rhinoplasty technique, the surgical intervention is performed through a small incision under the nose, while in the closed rhinoplasty technique, the procedure is completed without leaving a scar by entering through the nostrils. The nasal hump can be filed, the tip of the nose can be shaped, or if there is a deviated septum, it can be corrected to ensure easier breathing. After the surgery, silicone splints are placed inside the nose to support the healing process and these splints are usually removed within 7-10 days. Rhinoplasty provides an aesthetic and functional recovery, while creating a natural change in the person's facial expression and providing a more balanced and proportionate appearance.

3 - Who is Rhinoplasty Suitable For?

Rhinoplasty is suitable for individuals who are not satisfied with the shape of their nose or have difficulty breathing functionally. It is generally recommended for people who are 18 years of age and older and have completed their nasal development. Rhinoplasty; It is an ideal solution for individuals with a prominent nasal hump, a drooping or wide nasal tip, asymmetrical nostrils, or difficulty breathing due to nasal curvature. Rhinoplasty surgery can also be performed for individuals with congenital nasal deformities or nasal structure deformities as a result of trauma. It is important for individuals who want to have rhinoplasty to have good general health and to be conscious enough to adapt to post-operative care processes. Before the operation, patients' expectations are evaluated realistically, and a natural nose shape that is compatible with the facial structure is targeted. Rhinoplasty not only provides an aesthetic change, but also increases the person's self-confidence and makes positive contributions to their social life.

4 - What is the Recovery Process After Rhinoplasty?

Although the recovery process after rhinoplasty varies from person to person, the first few weeks are generally of critical importance. Mild pain, nasal congestion, and bruising may be experienced in the first days after surgery, but these usually begin to decrease within 7-10 days. The silicone splints and tapes placed inside the nose are usually removed on the 7th day after surgery, and the patient begins to breathe more comfortably. While most of the swelling passes within the first month, it may take 6 months to 1 year for the nose to fully settle and take its final shape. During the recovery process, patients should be careful not to hit their noses, avoid heavy exercises, and follow the care instructions recommended by the doctor. In addition, protection from the sun in the first months after surgery is important to reduce the sensitivity of the nasal skin. With proper surgical planning and a careful recovery process, a natural, aesthetically and functionally successful rhinoplasty result is achieved.
